出国的意义就是见识更大的世界,然后回来建设祖国和造福全人类。不好意思,我又俗了。言归正传,很大出国在无数出国介绍的书籍,网站以及这个问题的其他daan里都有,我这里就说几个我在外面留学时亲身经历的事情吧:

 

1. 在日本留学的时候:CMU日本校区在一所大厦的17层, 楼下有一个平台, 周末都会有各种活动. 有一次是赛车活动, 每人控制一个遥控车在一个赛道上比赛; 我小时候特别喜欢玩遥控车, 现在也是. 但是在中国, 我这样大的人还玩遥控车会是幼稚的表现. 日本文化则不同, 他们遥控车有一个一个团队, 团队里的人有人负责操控车(驾驶), 有人负责调教转向和马达, 有人负责提高电池输出效率, 活似一个F1赛车团队. 我住的公寓旁边还有一个模型店。开始我以为里面只是买点遥控汽车之类给小孩的玩具,然后发现里面的东西涉猎极广:有很专业的遥控车,有机器人高达,还有一大片的轨道交通模型(铁路+新干线模型),活生生得是一个职业模型收藏店。我想我小时候要是在旁边有这么一家模型店,我肯定是天天过来看和玩。

 

2. 令我现在依旧记忆犹新的是, 还有一次日本小学生跳舞活动上, 有一个学生是老师搀扶着在跳. 起初我以为她是娇气, 最后快结束发现原来她缺了一条腿. 在中国可能这样的小朋友只能在座下观看当个啦啦队. 但是日本人不这么认为, 任何一个小朋友不应该由于自己的残疾而丧失参加集体活动的机会, 所以即使专门叫一个老师来扶着你, 也要让你跳完。

 

3. 在CMU本校区的时候,我自习经常选在School of computer science的大楼,因为这样可以感受到计算机的气息。一进门,你就会看到一个Bill Gates和他老婆的头像,因为整个楼是他们夫妇捐的。这还不算,其实我让我震惊的是:在教室里自习的时候,经常看到有些椅子上写着:“This chair is donated by xxxx."(椅子由很久之前的校友xxx捐赠),甚至有些教室外面挂一块牌子“This classroom won't be possible without the generosity of xxxx,xxx,and xxx (or class xxx)" (几个人一起,或者一个班级的老学长学姐们合捐的教室)。我当时就被美国高校这种浓厚的捐赠文化震撼了。我在这种环境下每天被感染着,让我自己也不止一次地想过以后成功了也给学校捐一把,将自己的名字留在学校里。老了之后,带着儿女孙子等,给他们看我当年捐过的椅子和教室。相比之下,反思国内的大学在这方面就做得很不够,没有给学生灌输这种捐赠文化(学生捐了也怕被贪污)。CMU和其他美国的大学则是把这种文化传承在整个校园里,让捐赠这一行为显得很酷,让毕业生成功之后也想这么去“潇洒”一把。

Closer to home, there are countless books on going abroad, websites and other daan on this issue. Let me talk about a few things that I personally experienced when I was studying abroad:

 

1. When I was studying in Japan: CMU Japan Campus is on the 17th floor of a building, there is a platform downstairs, and there will be various activities on weekends. Once it was a racing event, each person controlled a remote control car to race on a track; When I was young, I really liked playing with remote control cars, and I still do now. But in China, it would be naive for a person my age to play with remote control cars. Japanese culture is different, they have a team of remote control cars, and someone in the team is responsible for the control For the car (driving), someone is responsible for tuning the steering and motor, and someone is responsible for improving the battery output efficiency, just like an F1 racing team. There is also a model shop next to my apartment. At first I thought it was just to buy some remote control cars and other toys for children, but then I found that there are a lot of things in it: there are very professional remote control cars, robot Gundam, and a large number of rail transit models (railway + Shinkansen models), It is a real professional model collection store. I think if there was such a model shop next to me when I was a child, I would definitely come to see and play every day.

 

2. What is still fresh in my memory is that there was another Japanese primary school student dance activity, a student was dancing with the support of the teacher. At first I thought she was delicate, but at the end I found out that she was missing a leg. In China, children like this may only be able to watch from the audience and become a cheerleader. But the Japanese don’t think so, any child should not lose the opportunity to participate in group activities because of his disability, so even if you ask a teacher to help you, it’s okay I want you to finish the dance.

 

3. When I was in the CMU campus, I often chose the building of the School of computer science for self-study, because I can feel the breath of the computer in this way. As soon as you enter the door, you will see a portrait of Bill Gates and his wife, because the entire building was donated by their couple. That’s not counting. In fact, what shocked me is that when I was studying in the classroom, I often saw some chairs with words: "This chair is donated by xxxx." Some classrooms hang a sign "This classroom won't be possible without the generosity of xxxx,xxx,and xxx (or class xxx)" (a classroom jointly donated by several people, or a class of old seniors and sisters). I was shocked by the strong donation culture in American colleges and universities. I was infected every day in this environment, which made me think more than once that if I succeed, I will donate to the school and keep my name in the school. When I get old, I bring my children and grandchildren to show them the chairs and classrooms I donated back then. In contrast, it is reflected that domestic universities have not done enough in this regard, and have not instilled this kind of donation culture in students (students are afraid of being corrupted if they donate). CMU and other American universities pass on this culture throughout the campus, making donations look cool, and making graduates want to be "chic" after they succeed.
